The 2026 Ford F-150 Raptor. You are buying the suspension.
At $79,005 the Raptor is the most expensive F-150 Ford lists, and it tows 5,300 lb less than a $44,695 XLT, carries 1,035 lb less, and cannot be ordered with BlueCruise at any price. Everything the money buys is underneath it.

The Raptor is the F-150 that does the least truck work
This is the most expensive F-150 on Ford’s list and, measured the way people usually measure a pickup, the least capable one. That is not a criticism — it is what the truck is for. But it is worth knowing before you spend $81,800, and no Raptor page will tell you unless it is willing to print Ford’s own numbers next to each other.
$34,310 more than an XLT, and 5,300 lb less towing
Ford rates the Raptor to tow 8,200 lb. An F-150 SuperCrew with the 3.5L EcoBoost, the Max Tow/Haul Package and the Max Tow Axle is rated at 13,500 lb, and you can order that on a $44,695 XLT. Payload runs the same way: 1,405 lb against a 2,440 lb maximum.
$14,090 more than a Tremor
The Tremor is $64,915, four-wheel drive, and Ford’s other off-road F-150. It returns 18 MPG combined against the Raptor’s 16, and the EPA puts its annual fuel bill $450 lower. If the appeal is a capable truck on a trail rather than a truck that can be driven flat out across a dry lake, the Tremor is the honest answer.
BlueCruise is not offered on it, at any price
Ford’s 2026 F-150 Order Guide states it outright: hands-free highway driving is not available on the Raptor. A $59,560 Lariat can have it. The truck that costs $19,445 more cannot. If your week is mostly I-90, that is a real thing to weigh.
What the money does buy
A 450 hp High-Output V6 no other F-150 gets, FOX internal-bypass shocks with electronic control that Ford says can generate upward of 1,000 pounds of damping per corner at desert speeds, available 37-inch all-terrain tires, and Trail Control with Trail 1-Pedal Drive and Trail Turn Assist. All of it is suspension and traction, and all of it works best at a speed you will not reach in McHenry County.

Desert racing, translated into something you can buy on a Tuesday
The Raptor is Ford’s attempt to sell a Baja truck through a normal dealership, and the hardware is honest about it. The FOX shocks are internal-bypass units with electronic control — Ford’s own copy says they can put out upward of 1,000 pounds of damping per corner at high desert speeds and are built to resist the heat that comes with running fast for a long time over rough ground. That is not a pothole solution. It is a solution to an hour of whoops at 60 mph. The available 37-inch all-terrain tires are the other half of it. They buy ground clearance and floatation on sand and silt, and they cost you steering response, braking distance, road noise and tire money. A set is not a small purchase and they do not last like a highway tire. Trail Control is the low-speed cruise control that lets the truck manage throttle and braking while you steer. Trail 1-Pedal Drive combines the two pedals for crawling. Trail Turn Assist drags an inside rear brake to tighten the turning circle on dirt. Every one of these is genuinely useful — on terrain that is at least three states away. None of that makes the Raptor a bad truck. It makes it a specialized one, and the fair question is not whether it is good but whether the thing it is good at is a thing you will do.
Raptor, Raptor R or Tremor
Three trucks, and Ford only publishes a price for two of them. Here is what each one actually is.
-
Raptor
$79,005, 450 hp, and it runs on regular
The one Ford lists. Four-wheel drive, SuperCrew, the High-Output V6 that no other F-150 can be ordered with, and the whole suspension package. The EPA rates it on regular gasoline, which surprises people who assume a truck like this must want premium.
- Starting MSRP$79,005 · $81,800 with destination

- EPA annual fuel$3,850
-
Raptor R
720 hp, and Ford will not print a price
Ford’s 2026 F-150 models page lists eight trims and the Raptor R is not one of them — the supercharged V8 appears on the Raptor’s card as an available engine. The EPA rates it as its own configuration and the Ad Planner renders no picture of it. We can price a specific truck for you; we cannot quote a starting MSRP Ford does not publish.

The alternative
The Tremor is $14,090 less and uses less fuel
Also four-wheel drive, also built to leave the pavement, and $64,915. It gives up the Raptor’s width, its shocks and its High-Output engine, and it keeps the things most people around here actually use a four-wheel-drive truck for. It can also be ordered with BlueCruise, which the Raptor cannot.

- Engines3.5L EcoBoost standard · 5.0L V8 available
- EPA18 combined with the V6 · 17 with the V8
- EPA annual fuel$3,400 to $3,600
Prices are Ford’s published starting MSRPs for the 2026 F-150, read from ford.com in a rendered browser on Sept. 5, 2026, and exclude the $2,795 destination and delivery charge, taxes, title, license and the dealer documentary fee. Fuel economy and the annual fuel cost estimates are the EPA’s own for the 2026 model year, read from fueleconomy.gov on Sept. 5, 2026; the EPA’s annual figure assumes 15,000 miles a year at its own fuel prices, so treat it as a comparison between these trucks rather than a forecast of your bill.
Two engines, and only one of them is on Ford’s price list
The Raptor gets a High-Output version of the 3.5L EcoBoost that is not offered on any other F-150. The Raptor R gets a supercharged 5.2L V8 that is not offered on anything else Ford sells as a truck. Everything else in the eight-trim F-150 range is covered on the F-150 page.
| Engine | Power | Torque | Fuel | EPA combined |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output V6 | 450 hp @ 5,250 | 510 lb-ft @ 3,500 | Regular | 16 MPG |
| 5.2L supercharged V8 (Raptor R) | 720 hp @ 6,650 | 640 lb-ft @ 4,300 | Premium | 12 MPG |

The supercharger adds 270 horsepower and $2,500 a year
The EPA does not only publish miles per gallon; it publishes an estimated annual fuel cost for every configuration it rates, on the same assumptions for every vehicle. For 2026 it puts the Raptor at $3,850 a year and the Raptor R at $6,350. That is a $2,500 difference before you have added a single option, and it is $3,250 a year more than a 2.7L four-wheel-drive F-150 at $3,100. The R is also the only F-150 the EPA lists as needing premium fuel. The standard Raptor takes regular, which is worth saying out loud because most people assume the opposite of a 450-horsepower truck. None of this is an argument against the R. It is the fastest thing Ford will sell you with a bed, and 720 horsepower is 720 horsepower. It is an argument for knowing the running cost before you sign, rather than discovering it in February.
Power and torque are Ford’s published figures for the 2026 F-150, carried from Ford’s Tech Specs sheet; ford.com’s Raptor page repeats the 720 hp figure in its own copy, read Sept. 5, 2026. Fuel economy, required fuel grade and the annual fuel cost estimates are the EPA’s for the 2026 model year, read from fueleconomy.gov on Sept. 5, 2026. Your actual mileage and fuel bill will differ.

Raptor, Raptor R and Tremor, side by side
A filled mark means standard, a hollow mark means available at extra cost and a dash means Ford does not offer it. Towing and payload are split by engine and driveline rather than by trim, so those tables live on the F-150 page where they belong.
Standard and available content is from Ford’s 2026 F-150 Order Guide and the trim pages on ford.com, read Sept. 5, 2026. Prices are Ford’s published starting MSRPs and exclude taxes, title, license and the dealer documentary fee. Ford lists eight F-150 trims for 2026 and the Raptor R is not one of them — it is an available engine on the Raptor, and Ford publishes no starting MSRP for it, which is why that cell reads “Not published” rather than carrying a number we made up. Ford revises trim content during the model year.

Ford does not publish a starting MSRP for the Raptor R on any page we can reach, and its own configurator would not load when we checked, so we have not printed one — call us and we will price a specific truck.
Seven colors, and one of them is Raptor-only
The Raptor’s palette is narrower than the rest of the F-150 range, and Shelter Green Metallic cannot be ordered on any other F-150.

Five NHTSA stars, an IIHS Poor, and an award that went away
Neither agency tests trims. Both rate the F-150 by cab and driveline, and the Raptor is a SuperCrew four-by-four, so these are its ratings. One of them is uncomfortable and we are going to print it anyway.
NHTSA: five stars overall, four for rollover
The 2026 F-150 SuperCrew with four-wheel drive rates five stars overall, five for the frontal crash, five for the side crash and five for the side pole test. Rollover is four stars, with a calculated risk of 19.1 percent. The rear-drive SuperCrew is identical except for a 16.4 percent rollover figure — a tall four-wheel-drive truck is simply harder to keep on its feet.
IIHS: the 2025 was a Top Safety Pick and the 2026 is not
The 2025 F-150 crew cab carries the award. The 2026 page carries none. The underlying ratings did not get worse — small overlap front is Good, the updated side test is Good, headlights are Good or Acceptable depending on trim — and the standard equipment actually improved, with blind spot detection, lane departure warning and prevention and rear automatic braking all listed as standard for 2026 where 2025 listed them as options.
The Poor is the back seat, specifically
In the updated moderate overlap front test the F-150 rates Poor overall. Read the detail and it is not the truck’s structure: the safety cage is Good and every driver measure — head and neck, chest, thigh and hip, leg and foot, restraints and kinematics — is Good. The rear passenger measures are Poor for head and neck, Poor for chest and Poor for restraints and dummy kinematics. If people ride in the back of your truck, that is the sentence that matters.
And the one the Raptor cannot have
Front crash prevention on the optional vehicle-to-vehicle system rates Poor; the pedestrian system rates Good. LATCH ease of use is Marginal. Separately, and not an IIHS matter at all: BlueCruise, Ford’s hands-free highway system, is not offered on the Raptor at any price, so the most expensive F-150 is one of the three that cannot have it.
NHTSA ratings from the agency’s Safety Ratings API for the 2026 Ford F-150 SuperCrew, read Sept. 5, 2026. IIHS ratings from iihs.org for the 2026 Ford F-150 crew cab pickup, read Sept. 5, 2026; the moderate overlap result comes from a 2023 F-150 SuperCrew 4×4 and IIHS applies it to 2023 through 2026 models, and the small overlap result applies to 2021 through 2026 models built after March 2021. Neither agency rates the Raptor separately from other F-150 crew cabs. Ratings apply to the tested configuration and can change as the agencies publish new results.
The Raptor in numbers
Raptor and Raptor R only. The rest of the 2026 F-150 range — eight trims, six engines, towing and payload split by driveline — is on the F-150 page.

There is no desert within a day of Huntley, and that is fine
The Raptor’s suspension is engineered for sustained high speed over rough open ground, and McHenry and Kane counties do not have any. Nobody is running a Raptor flat out down Route 47. If you buy one here you are buying most of its ability and using a fraction of it, and that is a legitimate thing to do with your own money — people buy fast cars they never take to a track for the same reason. What the truck is genuinely good at here is winter and neglect. Four-wheel drive is standard, the ride height and the all-terrain tires make an unplowed subdivision street a non-event, and the long-travel suspension takes frost heave and gravel-road washboard better than any other F-150. It launches a boat, it gets to a job site with no road, and it is comfortable on I-90 in a way a stiffer off-road truck is not. The practical costs are real. It is wide, and the 37-inch tires make it wider still — measure your garage door and your own driveway before you commit, not after. Those tires are expensive to replace and they are noisy. And at 16 MPG combined it is not a truck you drive to Elgin and back twice a day without noticing. If what you want is a capable four-wheel-drive truck for winters here and a trail on holiday, the Tremor does that for $14,090 less and better fuel economy, and we will say so out loud. If what you want is a Raptor, we understand that too. Come and drive one. We are at 13900 Automall Drive in Huntley, just off Route 47 at I-90, an easy run from Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, Elgin and Woodstock.
Four reasons to buy something else
Every number below is Ford’s or the EPA’s, not our opinion. Edmunds scores the 2026 F-150 at 7.7 out of 10 and ranks it first among large trucks; the case against the Raptor specifically is not a review score, it is arithmetic.
If you tow, this is the wrong end of the range
8,200 lb against 13,500 for a properly equipped 3.5L EcoBoost, and 1,405 lb of payload against 2,440 lb. An XLT with the Max Tow/Haul Package out-tows the Raptor by 5,300 lb and costs $34,310 less. Buying a Raptor to pull a camper is buying the one F-150 that is worst at it.
The fuel bill is not a rounding error
16 MPG combined on the Raptor, 12 on the Raptor R, and the R is the only F-150 the EPA lists as needing premium. The EPA’s own annual estimates put the Raptor at $3,850 and the Raptor R at $6,350 against $3,100 for a 2.7L four-wheel-drive F-150. Over five years that gap on the R is real money.
No BlueCruise, on the most expensive F-150
Ford’s hands-free highway system is not offered on the Raptor at any price. If most of your miles are I-90 and I-290, the Lariat that costs $19,445 less will be the more relaxing truck on exactly the road you spend the most time on. This one catches people out.
And the back seat, in the IIHS’s numbers
The updated moderate overlap test rates the F-150 Poor overall — driver measures all Good, rear passenger head and neck, chest and restraints all Poor. The 2025 truck was a Top Safety Pick and the 2026 carries no award. If children ride in the back of this truck regularly, that belongs in the decision.
What buying here is like

2026 F-150 Raptor questions, answered with the number first
How much is a 2026 Ford F-150 Raptor?
Ford’s published starting MSRP is $79,005, and Ford’s destination and delivery charge for the 2026 F-150 is $2,795, so the truck is $81,800 before taxes, title, license and the dealer documentary fee. That makes it the most expensive F-150 Ford lists — $10,205 clear of the Platinum, $14,090 above the Tremor and $34,310 above an XLT.
How much does a Ford F-150 Raptor R cost?
Ford does not publish a starting MSRP for it. Ford’s 2026 F-150 models page lists eight trims — XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, Tremor, King Ranch, Platinum and Raptor — and the Raptor R is not one of them; the supercharged V8 appears on the Raptor’s card as an available engine. The EPA rates it as its own configuration and Ford’s own Ad Planner renders no picture of it. We would rather price a specific truck for you than publish a number Ford has not published.
How much can a 2026 F-150 Raptor tow?
8,200 lb for the Raptor and 8,700 lb for the Raptor R, properly equipped. For comparison, a 2026 F-150 SuperCrew with the 3.5L EcoBoost, the Max Tow/Haul Package and the Max Tow Axle is rated at 13,500 lb — 5,300 lb more — and you can order that combination on a $44,695 XLT. Payload runs the same way: 1,405 lb on the Raptor against a 2,440 lb maximum elsewhere in the range.
What MPG does a 2026 F-150 Raptor get?
EPA-estimated for 2026: the Raptor is 14 city, 18 highway and 16 combined on regular gasoline. The Raptor R is 10 city, 15 highway and 12 combined and is the only F-150 the EPA lists as requiring premium. The EPA’s own annual fuel cost estimates are $3,850 for the Raptor and $6,350 for the Raptor R, against $3,100 for a 2.7L four-wheel-drive F-150.
What is the difference between the Raptor and the Raptor R?
The engine, and about 270 horsepower. The Raptor runs a 450 hp, 510 lb-ft High-Output version of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 that no other F-150 gets. The Raptor R runs a 5.2L supercharged V8 making 720 hp and 640 lb-ft. Both are four-wheel drive SuperCrews, both can be ordered with 37-inch all-terrain tires, and the R adds Dual-Valve FOX shocks. The R costs the EPA’s estimated $2,500 a year more to fuel and Ford does not publish a price for it.
Is the F-150 Raptor available with all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive?
Neither. Every Raptor and Raptor R is four-wheel drive; Ford builds no rear-drive version and there is no full-time all-wheel-drive option. That is one of the few places where the Raptor is unambiguously the more capable truck for an Illinois winter.
Does the F-150 Raptor come with BlueCruise?
No, and it cannot be added. Ford’s 2026 F-150 Order Guide does not offer BlueCruise on the Raptor at any price, which means the most expensive F-150 is one of the three trims that cannot have hands-free highway driving. A Lariat, a King Ranch, a Platinum or a Tremor can.
Should I buy a Raptor or an F-150 Tremor?
If you want a four-wheel-drive truck for winters here, gravel roads and the occasional trail, the Tremor at $64,915 does that for $14,090 less, returns 18 MPG combined against 16, costs the EPA’s estimated $450 less a year to fuel and can be ordered with BlueCruise. The Raptor’s advantage is long-travel FOX suspension built for speed over rough ground, and 37-inch tires. Drive both — the difference is obvious in about a mile.
How safe is the 2026 Ford F-150 Raptor?
Neither agency rates trims separately, so the Raptor carries the F-150 SuperCrew’s ratings. NHTSA gives the 2026 SuperCrew four-wheel drive five stars overall, five for frontal, side and side pole, and four for rollover with a 19.1 percent calculated risk. The IIHS gives the 2026 F-150 crew cab no award — the 2025 was a Top Safety Pick — with Good for small overlap and the updated side test but Poor for the updated moderate overlap test, driven entirely by the rear passenger measures.
What colors does the 2026 F-150 Raptor come in?
Seven. Three at no cost — Agate Black Metallic, Carbonized Gray Metallic and Oxford White. Four at extra cost — Antimatter Blue Metallic, Avalanche, Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat and Shelter Green Metallic, which is Raptor-only across the whole F-150 range. Ford does not publish the surcharges, so ask us and we will price the specific truck.
Are 37-inch tires standard on the Raptor?
No. Ford lists 37-inch all-terrain tires as available on both the Raptor and the Raptor R, not standard. They buy ground clearance and floatation, and they cost you steering response, braking distance, road noise and tire money. If the truck is mostly going to live on pavement, this is an option worth thinking about rather than ticking.
Is the Raptor a good truck for towing a camper?
It is the worst F-150 for it. At 8,200 lb it is rated below every properly equipped 3.5L EcoBoost F-150, and its 1,405 lb payload limits tongue weight and what you can put in the bed at the same time. If towing is the job, start from the F-150 page and work backwards from the trailer, not from the badge.
