What we stock

What a Ford parts counter actually keeps on the shelf

The fast-moving maintenance items are here today. Everything else Ford builds can be ordered, and most of it arrives within a day or two.

In short

Filters, brakes, batteries, wipers, belts, plugs, fluids and the common collision and trim pieces are stocked. Anything Ford catalogs can be ordered against your VIN, which is the part that matters: the VIN tells us which of the four versions of a part your vehicle actually takes, and that is where a guess made online goes wrong.

  • Maintenance parts, on the shelf. Oil and air filters, cabin filters, brake pads and rotors, batteries, wiper blades, spark plugs, belts and hoses, and Motorcraft fluids.
  • Anything else in the Ford catalog, to order. Ordered against your VIN rather than a year-make-model guess. Ask at the counter and you will be told how long it takes before you commit.
  • Parts for vehicles that are not Fords. Ford’s Omnicraft line covers other makes, and Quick Lane works on any make — so a Honda in the family is not a reason to shop elsewhere.
  • Accessories, which are a different catalog. Bed liners, running boards, floor liners, racks and trim have their own page — Ford accessories.
  • Installed here if you want. A part bought over the counter is yours to install. A part installed by the shop carries labor cover as well — see the warranty below.
The question we get most

Is Motorcraft a Ford brand?

Yes. Motorcraft is Ford Motor Company’s own parts brand — it is not a third party, and it is not a cheaper substitute for a Ford part.

  • Ford Parts

The parts a Ford was built with, under the Ford name. What you get when a panel, a sensor or a module is replaced with the item the factory installed.

  • Motorcraft

Ford’s own brand for maintenance and repair items — filters, plugs, brakes, batteries, fluids. Same company, engineered for Ford vehicles, sold through Ford dealers and Quick Lane.

  • Omnicraft

Ford’s brand for vehicles that are not Fords. It exists so a Ford dealer can service the other car in the driveway without dropping to unbranded parts.

So “Motorcraft or OEM?” is not a choice

It is a question with one answer: Motorcraft is the OEM part for the jobs it covers. The comparison worth making is Motorcraft against an aftermarket brand — and there the difference is not the metal so much as the two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty that comes with it.

The term

What does OEM mean on a car part?

Original Equipment Manufacturer — the company that made the part the vehicle was built with. On a Ford that means Ford, and for maintenance items it means Motorcraft.

The three things a part can be, and what changes
What it isWho made itFitWarranty here
OEM — Ford or MotorcraftFord Motor CompanyBuilt to the vehicle’s own spec, matched by VINTwo years, unlimited mileage, limited labor included
OEM-equivalent, aftermarketAnother manufacturerUsually fits; tolerances and materials vary by brandThe maker’s own terms, and labor is rarely in them

Where it actually matters, and where it does not

For a wiper blade, very little. For anything the vehicle’s electronics have to recognize — a sensor, a module, a battery on a car with charge management — a part that is merely the right shape is not the right part. That is also why recall and warranty work can only be done with the factory item, by a franchised dealer.

Buying elsewhere

Are the Ford parts sites online genuine?

Some are, some are not, and the honest answer is that you often cannot tell from the listing. Here is what to check before you spend.

  • Many of the “Ford parts” sites are real Ford dealers. Dealers sell online under their own names, and those parts are genuine. The site is usually a dealership’s parts department with a shopping cart in front of it.
  • Marketplace listings are a different thing. On a marketplace the seller is whoever paid for the listing, the photograph may be Ford’s while the box is not, and a counterfeit filter or brake pad is a real and documented problem.
  • The warranty is the tell. A genuine part bought from a Ford dealer carries Ford’s two-year, unlimited-mileage cover. If nobody will put a warranty in writing, you are not buying what you think you are buying.
  • Returns on an electrical part are usually final. Order the wrong sensor or module online and you often own it. Over a counter, the VIN is checked before the part leaves the building.
  • The price gap is smaller than it looks. Add shipping, add the return risk, add the chance of a second attempt, and ask the counter for a figure before assuming. Call (847) 669-6060 — it takes a minute.
If you did buy online and it is wrong

Bring it in with the vehicle. The counter can tell you from the VIN what the correct part number is, which is worth knowing whether you return the other one or not.

The real difference

Two years, unlimited mileage, labor included

This is the thing an aftermarket box on a shelf cannot match, and it is why the price comparison is not a fair one.

What the cover actually says

Ford Parts and Motorcraft parts are covered for a full two years with unlimited mileage, and limited labor costs are included. No mileage cap is the unusual half — most aftermarket warranties stop at a mileage figure, and almost none of them pay for the labor to install the replacement. The exact terms are reproduced word for word on the coupons page.

Ordering

How to order a part in Huntley

Have the VIN ready and the rest is quick. Without it, a parts counter is guessing the same way a website does.

  • Call (847) 669-6060 and ask for parts. Fastest route for anything you can describe. Have the VIN — it is on the dashboard at the base of the windshield, on the driver’s door jamb, and on your insurance card.
  • Or come to the counter. Parts and service share the building at 13900 Automall Drive, so a part and the appointment can be arranged in one visit.
  • Say whether you are installing it yourself. It changes what is worth ordering, and whether the labor half of the warranty applies.
  • Ask about the offers before you pay. The coupons page carries every current Ford and Huntley Ford offer, including the spend-and-save that comes off a parts ticket.
  • If it needs installing, book it at the same time. Ford’s scheduler for an appointment, or Quick Lane without one.

Questions

Parts questions we are asked

Is Motorcraft Ford OEM?

Yes. Motorcraft is Ford Motor Company’s own parts brand, not a third-party substitute. For filters, plugs, brakes, batteries and fluids it is the original equipment part, sold through Ford dealers and Quick Lane stores.

Who makes Motorcraft oil, filters and batteries?

Ford Motor Company owns the brand and sets the specification; the manufacturing is done to Ford’s spec, which is what makes it the OEM part rather than an equivalent. The practical answer for an owner is that a Motorcraft filter is the filter the vehicle was engineered around.

What is the difference between Motorcraft and Omnicraft?

The vehicle. Motorcraft is Ford’s brand for Ford vehicles; Omnicraft is Ford’s brand for everything else, so a Ford dealer can service another make properly. Quick Lane here works on any make.

Do you carry parts for older Fords?

Usually yes, and if it is not on the shelf it is ordered against the VIN. Availability on a genuinely old vehicle depends on what Ford still supplies — the counter will tell you before you commit rather than after.

Can I buy a part and install it myself?

Yes. Parts are sold over the counter. The two-year, unlimited-mileage parts warranty still applies to the part; the labor half of the cover applies when the dealership installed it.

Are the Ford parts websites legitimate?

Many are real Ford dealers selling online, and those parts are genuine. Marketplace listings are a different matter — the photograph is often Ford’s and the box is not. The test is whether anyone will put the Ford warranty in writing.

Do I need the VIN to order a part?

It is the difference between the right part and a part that fits. One model year can carry several versions of the same component, and the VIN resolves which. It is on the dashboard at the base of the windshield and on the driver’s door jamb.

How long does a special order take?

Most items arrive within a day or two. Ask at the counter for a date before you order — you will get one, and it is better than finding out afterwards.

Do parts go on sale?

Ford runs national parts offers and Huntley Ford sets its own, including a spend-and-save that comes off a whole ticket. They are all on the coupons page, which is the only place on this site that carries a price or an expiry date.

Are accessories the same as parts?

Different catalog, same counter. Bed liners, running boards, floor liners, racks and trim are Ford Accessories — see Ford accessories for what fits and how they are installed.

Is a recall repair done with genuine parts?

Always, and it is free. A recall can only be performed by a franchised Ford dealer with the factory part, whatever the mileage and whoever bought the vehicle. Check your VIN.
